What is SWELL?

Founded by Nate Roderick in 2025, SWELL Media is built around a simple idea: Most people don’t struggle to change because they lack discipline. They struggle because something in their current identity feels worth preserving.

What looks like resistance is often protection—of certainty, belonging, or a familiar version of self.

SWELL began with a focus on sobriety and wellness, but the underlying pattern was always the same. Real change doesn’t come from forcing new behaviors. It comes from understanding what’s holding the old ones in place.

Through SWELL Insights and future products, the goal is to help people examine that structure—so change isn’t something they fight, but something they understand.

Meet Nate

Founder of SWELL Media

Hi, I’m Nate. A few years ago, in my mid-forties, I reached a point where something needed to change. My wife, Amanda, and I realized that drinking was taking a toll. We didn’t feel our best, and we knew we wanted more—from our health, our energy, and our lives.

In 2022, we stopped drinking and started taking our well-being seriously. What began as a personal reset evolved into something deeper. As things improved, I became less interested in the changes themselves, and more interested in why they worked.

Why were we able to make such significant changes quickly, when other changes fail after years of trying?

That’s what led to SWELL.

What started with sobriety and wellness evolved into a broader question: What actually makes change stick?

Today, my work focuses on understanding the identity, fear, and internal logic behind resistance, so people can stop fighting themselves and start making change last.

Through SWELL Insights and future products, I share what I’m learning as I continue to work through it myself.
